  1. 14k people here will probably facepalm a few years away or quit coding … this teaches you how to shoot yourself in the foot and make your team angry at you at the same time … you can bitch as much as you want, but the 10k rule still stands

  2. its much better to be taught by a professional than a novice (unless you are a great teacher already).   I didn't go to college until my late 20's, but having professors scrutinize your work and go beyond teaching you how to "code".

  3. teachyourselfcode.com is where all slides are.
Stop waiting for perfect technical co founder and just start learning.
Learning how to code is not the same as learning how to be a software engineer.
Code well enough to build a prototype.
Front End is what you see. Back end: web page (Rules) Database. Rules are coded in language.
Web application frameworks: jengo, ruby on rails, etc. Build web apps really fast.
Ruby on rails is good for building web page really fast, its huge, and hides stuff you don't need to know. Lots of short cuts. You don't need the back end sequel stuff with rails.
Rails tutorial are online for free. Ruby on rails tutorial by Michael Hartl.
Web application class: one week. could be online: John Ousterhout.
    Railcasts by Ryan bates.
Codeacademy. Fun ways to learn ruby, see learn ruby hard way, etc.
stackoverflow is like reddit but for computer science.
    hackathons putting knowledge into practice.
railscast. Rails for zombies. Code school. Hackety-hack.

  4. Like most others, they just want to hear themselves talk. I feel sorry for the people there in the audience who had to sit there and listen to this guy who, obviously, thinks he's cool and smart, while he just wastes their time.

  5. After watching this video my friend who works for a huge software company told me to start with Java lol. Now I'm torn. Listen to a random Youtube video or my friend who has been coding for 10 years at all the big companies.

  6. I wonder how many people in the audience actually tried to create some app or wrote some code just on their own? What I mean they had a need to create something and went on Google to figure out how to accomplish that. My guess is that there might be 1 or 2 people that tried that. However based on the question they asked its is most likely that none of them did. This is really sad, because it tells you about the quality of people that try to break in into programming field. I'm sure they are motivated in some way, but if by this time they did not try to create simple web page than what is the point of this meeting. It also struck me that Ruby is sort of drag-drop exercise. Dumb down to the level that anybody can create functional app/web site in no time. He makes fun of older languages like Java without realizing that Java or C# are platform languages. I understand that Ruby allows you to build functioning website really fast, but skilled programmer can achieve similar results using different tools in the same time. The difference is that programmer knows what he or she is doing in contrast to somebody who "picks" ready solutions.

  7. LOL. this is a 'why you should use the only language i know' video. try making a system that uses databases and something important that people depend on for their business and livelihood. its not put together with these script kiddie languages.

Ah, social media – the pulpit for everyone, even the minority and fringe seem bigger than they are. Like this guy.

Just go look for yourself. Go to the jobs boards and see what people are hiring for. Because if you cant get hired, your script kiddie playtime doesn't mean anything at all. Pay your rent with your misguided ego of which language is best.. lol

Each language and methodology has its place and was developed by people far more intelligent than all of us. Discounting it displays true ignorance and lack of experience and common sense.

  8. Am filling the application, just received the CHALLENGE from The University. I'm trying to give them the appropriate answer, Please help me to give me the tips that will make me to success my Application. Here is the CHALLENGE below.

    – Why did you pick this particular organisation, institution or individual?
    – How did you identify the problem to solve and why did you pick this problem over others?
    – Describe your approach. How did you come up with it? Is it the best possible solution? Why?

  9. i got it their are 2 kinds of people those who understand binary and those who dont 00=0, 01 =1 ,10=2, 11=3 and 4 would be 100=4 and 5 is 10……!!!!…BTW looking for a partner in c# (not to do anything just to learn and bounce ideals of each other)!!!!

  10. You sound so cocky and ignorant when you're explaining. yeah ok, you know how to program but when you're coming across as egocentric and insincere. There are some people who came here without a single clue on how to program and it seems as though you explain things in a way where you expect everyone to be on the same level as you and if they aren't then "f*** it".
